Bake Sale

The bake sale was pretty fun.  We didn't bake all of the stuff, we bought most of it.  but we separated all the food and put them in their own bags and sold them for a dollar each.  Of course we were telling them it was for a good cause.  A lot of people were more interested in the donations than they were in getting a brownie or cookie.  This is good because it got people engaged in what we really wanted them to be engaged in.  A lot of people didn't have a dollar on them because they dont carry money around campus.  I dont usually carry my wallet around unless i plan on going somewhere, so that made it kind of hard.  Some people also donated more than a dollar just to support the cause.  This was nice of them, and they didnt take a bunch of cookies.  My lacrosse coach even donated, and im surprised he didn't take 20 cookies! but im glad he donated, he gave us five dollars for a coookie.

Bake Sale

the bake sale we're going to be holding today is a wonderful idea.  The people on this campus are great with donations.  The cause is great and they get to eat some food while donating.  based on the way the weather is now, i am very glad we did not choose any of the water activities.  That would have been a huge bust and we would have gotten a lot less donations than i expect.  A bake sale can be done regardless of the weather which makes it perfect.  april 20th is exactly the most ideal day to have a bake sale considering it's 4/20, but hopefully people will have the munchies and want to buy some snacks.  most people will probably be expecting some edibles.  but anyway, i'm glad ms. andrews is having us do stuff like this because it is a lot of fun earning money for a good cause.  i've never really done something like this directly and it makes me feel really good about myself.

Discrimination

We talk a lot about discrimination against blacks in history.  I like the change our society has made throughout the past years.  I feel there is no discrimination at all in general.  I found it kind of weird how people in Montana were scared of having a black president.  It's not like he's going to make crazy changes that only a black man would do.  If Obama is not successful, it's not cause he's black but because he wasn't a good president.  Any black man can be just as successful as any white man.  Each person is different as an individual but we are all same as human beings.  It's insane to think about the discrimination that used to occur to the blacks.  They used to be slaves to whites.  I couldnt imagine owning a slave better yet being someones slave.  That just doesn't seem right  I'm really glad there is a lot less discrimination though.

Osama bin Laden

When we were supposed to read the articles in class, i had the article about an interview with Osama bin Laden.  it was really weird reading it because it was fromt he 1990's.  He had so much against he united states and even mentioned how the innocent people were considered enemies.  I feel like we should have been more prepared for a terrorist attack based on reading this article alone.  I don't know how we didnt see a terrorist attack coming after reading this.  The man's words were almost scary reading especially since i know what happened in 2001.  He had so much agression towards the united states and it was mainly because of religion.  He believed that people under a government that he didn't like were enemies to him.  even if they werent president or a person in high power of this government.  in other words, im an enemy to bin laden simply because i live under american government even though i have no influence on it.

Debate on feminist movement

I know it has been a while since we did this, but i need topics to blog about.  I feel that women have too much of a drive to gain their rights.  They try to get so much of what they don't have instead of cherishing the rights they have now.  Back in the day, women had no rights at all, and for women in this modern era to complain too much about people being sexist is very arrogant.  They shouldn't take their rights for granted.  I understand men have had rights for years, but that's just the way our society is/was.  Women have a role and they need to fulfill that role, just like men have a role and we fulfill ours.  I feel like the main reason women fight for their rights is because they want something they don't have.  when Adam and Eve were told not to eat the apple, they wanted to eat the apple simply because they wanted what they couldn't have.  My arguement does also go the other way, because women are human beings just like men are which means they should have the same rights as men.  This doesn't change the role they have though.  Men are meant to work and provide for the family while women do the house work and cooking.  It's just the way it works.

In-class discussion 4/5/2006

Sharing ideas for this essay was a really good idea because it made it a lot easier for me to brainstorm what I plan on writing.  I can relate to what they think and put it into my own thoughts.  This is always good to use other opinions to help out your own writing.  I agree with the book on the ripple effect of all these countries.  It's obvious if one leads to another and it effects so many different countries.  In future classes, you should use this tactic of sharing your thoughts and ideas with others in order to have a group opinion or even group conflict.  It will make writing essays much easier and also make it a lot easier to generate thoughts and ideas.  I, personally, have a hard time thinking up ideas for papers.  And now that I have heard other people's ideas, i can relate to them and decide to write similar or opposite of this person.
